Relay Control Module

The 1600 series logic module provides latching and coil drive to Matrix 7000 series coaxial relays, modules 6190A and 6191A video matrices, module 6157A audio relay, and model 6153A coaxial attenuator. Any other device which is within the output drive rating can also be controlled.

Module 1600 series provides status feedback and is typically used as the interface between the Matrix model 6310B decoding module and Matrix 7000 series relays.The module utilizes LED indicators to allow visual confirmation of the switchpoints current status. The LED's are continuously visible through a slot in the units top and are a valuable aid in troubleshooting and programming verification. Logical status feedback to the system's controller is also provided. To verify the status of a switchpoint, the status mode is selected by putting a “Low” on the set-reset lines in accordance with the control format shown in the specifications. The unit is then addressed through the Row and Column select lines either directly or through the decoding module. If the addressed point is set, the status output will go “Low”. The status of the switchpoints will not be changed when in the status mode.

Status is determined by verifying the relays' actual control coil current, instead of the control logic level, providing a fail-safe indication. This is a valuable feature which can alert the system to failures such as damaged control cable or an unplugged relay module.
